A quote from F. Guimaraes:
"Therefore, assuming that we’re already in a new grand minimum (of which I have no doubts about) we have 3 periods with which we could compare C24: cycles C14, C5 and the Maunder minimum. The present data seems to indicate that C24 is lower than C14 and C5.
Therefore, we’re facing a new grand minimum that is comparable to the Maunder minimum or even lower than that (Ice Age).
The Japanese study is bringing only more support and some physical explanation for what the present data already suggests."
(According to scientists at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and the Riken research foundation, current sunspot activity resembles a period in the 17th century known as the Maunder Minimum, the coldest part of the Little Ice Age.)
